As Mr. Leowy Intended
Tim Garner, acrylic, 2003, 18" x 12".
It's Washington Union Station in 1938 and two GG1 electrics are poised to head north to New York. Industrial designer Raymond Leowy suggested welded carbodies to eliminate the riveted surface of the original GG1. The dark green locomotive enamel, genuine gold leaf "cat whiskers" striping, and Futura lettering were part of Leowy's initial design.
