Keeping Appointments with Convoys
Tim Garner collection
This ad from December 1942 tells readers "in a day's combat, an average infantry division fires about 300 tons of ammunition." Ammunition, vehicles and 700.000 other items must come by sea. The PRR asks patrons to be patient if their arrival is delayed by a "convoy train." PRR railroaders in the armed forces are up to 37,028 and dead to 71 at this stage of World War II.
