E44 #4465 at Strasburg, Pennsylvania
Delivered in July of 1963, this was the last type of electric locomotive purchased by the PRR. It also served Penn Central, Conrail, and Amtrak before coming to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Under PRR ownership, these 4,400 horsepower (later upgraded for 5,000) only looked this clean in service twice – when delivered and when Assistant Enginehouse Foreman at Enola, Bill Volkmer, had six dragged through the Enola diesel washer in 1962.
