Connecting Railway Bridge Stereo View
This stereo view was an amazing find in a southern Maine antique shop. The bridge in the background is the Connecting Railway Bridge over the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. A little photo detective work places this shot in the mid-to-late 1870s. Eventually, this two-track iron and stone bridge would be rebuilt into a five-track all-stone design. It survives today carrying Amtrak trains between Washington and New York.
